Once your Poly B replacement is finished, a clear handover helps you understand what changed and where to find the supporting records. Set aside time for a walkthrough while the project details are fresh. This checklist gives you a practical way to organize the information without relying on memory months later.

Get a written description of the completed work

Keep the final invoice and a scope summary identifying the areas and fixtures served by the new piping. Ask the contractor to record any excluded sections, retained piping or work deferred to a later date. If the project was a partial replacement, make sure the documentation describes it that way. A general label such as 'repipe' is less useful than a specific description.

Collect photographs and material information

Request available installation photographs, especially images taken before access openings were closed. Label them by room or location and store them with any information supplied about the pipe, fittings and valves used. These records can help explain the project during future maintenance or renovations; they should accompany the written scope rather than replace it.

Keep the permit and inspection records together

Ask for the permit reference and the inspection results associated with the job, including whether any follow-up remains outstanding. Keep those records beside the invoice so you can locate them easily. If you are unsure what a status means, ask the contractor to explain it and identify the next step. The City of Calgary's homeowner electrical and plumbing permits page provides local permit and inspection information.

Walk through the plumbing and restored areas

Ask the contractor to show you the main shutoff and any new isolation valves and explain their intended use. Review the fixtures included in the work and raise any concerns about their operation. Check the agreed access repairs, cleanup and finishing, then make a written list of any outstanding items with a responsible contact and expected completion date.

Understand the warranty and follow-up process

Request the written warranty terms that apply to the work and materials, including any exclusions and the contact procedure for a concern. Keep the actual documents rather than relying on a verbal description. Ask what routine observations or maintenance the installer recommends for the completed system.

Create one digital folder containing the quote, approved changes, invoice, photographs, inspection records and warranty information. Planning that folder before the job starts makes handover easier. Contact Calgary Poly B Plumbing to discuss your assessment and the documentation you would like included with your replacement project.
